The South Wales group of the LDWA have been maintaining a database that contains details of group walks going back to April 2005. From mid 2008 some walk details include a GPX track of the route obtained by using a GPS device to record the route during the walk. Most walks in recent years will have the route which can be displayed on an OS map and downloaded for future use. In addition since mid 2008 most walks will have a link to a gallery displaying photographs taken during the walk.
There are three ways to access walks in the database each of which will, if available, provide links to display the route, download a GPX file and a photograph gallery:
- By selection on a map. To use this select the broad geographic area by clicking on a ‘Leekman’ marker, then the year via a menu. This will then display more markers on a map for the individual walks in the selected year, clicking on a marker will bring up more details.
- By using a database search form that enables selection by year and quarter, by distance and year or by part of walk name.
- From chronological lists of walks by year (this is also accessible for convenience via the ‘Walks Programme’ item in the menu bar).
